Son Of Super Eagles US ’94 Star Available To Represent Nigeria After Club Debut

Landon Emenalo, son of former Super Eagles defender Michael Emenalo, is still available to play for Nigeria at senior level after he made his professional debut for Scottish side Celtic.

According to OwnGoalNigeria, the 18-year-old had represented United States and England at junior level but can opt to play for Nigeria’s senior team.

Sources close to the family revealed that Landon is open to following in the footsteps of his father by playing for the Super Eagles.

However, the young defender is yet to make a final decision on where he would like to ply his trade internationally.

Landon, who was born in the USA but was raised in England, is currently on a season-long loan deal from parent club Chelsea at Parkhead for the 2026/27 campaign.

He joined up with the Scottish Premiership outfit during the summer transfer window to gain valuable first team experience.

The teenager made his professional debut in the 7-1 thrashing of Hearts, coming on as a second-half substitute to complete the final 30 minutes of the game.

It is a huge step forward in his fledging career as he looks to cement his place in the first team.

Landon is primarily a left-back, a position formerly occupied by his father, but can also play in central defence and midfield.

Despite still being eligible to play for Nigeria, the defender is not expected to commit to the Super Eagles anytime soon as he focuses on his development at club level.

Emenalo joined Celtic on September 2, 2026, on a season-long loan deal for the 2026/27 campaign.

The club described him as a versatile player who can play anywhere in the back four as well as in midfield.

Prior to his move to Glasgow, the teenager was a first team regular for Blues’ Under-21s last season.

Celtic also confirmed on October 13 that Emenalo has completed his injury rehabilitation with Chelsea and has joined the first team squad in Glasgow.

Manager Martin O’Neill has also sung praises of the young defender, highlighting his athleticism and composure on the ball.

His father, Michael Emenalo, was part of the Nigeria squad that qualified for the 1994 World Cup finals in the USA, where the Super Eagles progressed to the Round of 16.

After hanging up his boots, the former centre-back was involved in football administration and is currently the technical director at Chelsea.
