Mrs Tinubu made the remark on Friday, October 23, 2026, during the inauguration of the headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Abuja, a political group mobilising support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady expressed confidence in Nigeria’s future, saying she hoped to leave the Presidential Villa in 2031 and enjoy life in the country as a woman in her seventies.

“Things are happening in Nigeria, except for those who refuse to see. Maybe we will give them Tinubu eyeglasses,” she said.

She added: “I want to leave Aso Rock in 2031 and then walk the streets of Nigeria as a woman in her 70s.”

Remi Tinubu Points to Changes at Airports

The First Lady cited developments in Nigeria’s aviation facilities as evidence of progress under her husband’s administration.

According to her, improvements at the country’s airports would make travelling easier and contribute to her vision of a Nigeria she could comfortably enjoy after leaving office.

“I want to get to the airport and travel quickly, you know. You can see that our airports are changing, so things are happening in Nigeria,” she stated.

Her remarks come amid continuing public debate over the impact of the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, with supporters pointing to government initiatives while critics continue to raise concerns about the cost of living and the financial pressures facing households.

First Lady Rallies Support for Tinubu’s Re-election

The event also served as a platform for mobilising grassroots support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement was established to coordinate outreach to communities and households in support of President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

The First Lady’s appearance at the inauguration underscored her support for the re-election campaign as political activities intensify ahead of the polls.

The administration’s performance is expected to remain a major issue in the campaign, with supporters and opposition figures offering contrasting assessments of its policies and their effects on Nigerians.

Mrs Tinubu’s reference to “Tinubu eyeglasses” has added another talking point to the political conversation, particularly as Nigerians continue to debate whether the government’s reforms are translating into meaningful improvements in their daily lives.
