“The Dangote Group Has Smelt Blood in Kenya, and That Is Good for Kenya” – Ahmednasir Abdullahi

Kenyan lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has called on the government to create a favourable investment environment that would attract more investors from across Africa, following growing interest in Kenya from the Dangote Group.

In his statement, the Advocate of the High Court of Kenya argued that Kenya should encourage the Nigerian conglomerate to expand its investment interests in the country. He maintained that attracting major African investors could create opportunities for economic growth, job creation and stronger regional business partnerships.

Ahmednasir also criticised leaders who raise concerns about investment decisions without, in his view, adequately considering the potential economic benefits. He specifically mentioned Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, urging the government to concentrate on developing an environment that encourages businesses to invest rather than being distracted by political disagreements.

His remarks have drawn attention to the broader question of how Kenya can position itself as an attractive destination for both domestic and international investors.

For a country seeking to expand employment opportunities, strengthen industries and improve economic performance, attracting large-scale investments remains an important consideration. Major investors can potentially contribute capital, introduce new technologies, develop infrastructure and create opportunities for local suppliers.

However, the benefits depend on the nature of the investments, the jobs created, the taxes paid and the extent to which local businesses participate in the resulting economic activity. These are important considerations for policymakers when evaluating proposals from large corporations.

Ahmednasir’s statement also highlights the importance of competition among African economies for investment. Countries that provide predictable regulations, efficient public services, reliable infrastructure and transparent business processes may be better positioned to attract companies seeking opportunities across the continent.

For Kenya, the challenge is not simply to attract prominent investors but also to establish clear policies that protect the public interest while allowing businesses to grow. Fair competition, accountability and effective regulation can help ensure that investment translates into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.

As discussions about the Dangote Group’s investment interests continue, Ahmednasir’s remarks raise an important question about Kenya’s economic priorities and its approach to attracting major businesses.
