“Absolutely Nothing Will Change?” Miguna Miguna Sends Strong Message to Kenyans Over Court Orders

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has criticised Kenyans who believe that political leaders will always respect court orders, arguing that public pressure is necessary to protect the rule of law.

In a post shared on October 23, Miguna said many people still believe that leaders, including President William Ruto, care about court decisions, despite what he described as disobedience in his own legal case.

Miguna explained that when he recently raised concerns about alleged non-compliance with court orders in his case, some people dismissed the matter as a personal dispute.

He disagreed with that reaction, arguing that respect for court decisions is an issue that affects the wider public and the country’s justice system.

In his message, Miguna also argued that meaningful change would require Kenyans to become more determined to demand accountability from those in power.

His use of the word “revolution” reflected his call for major change, although he did not explain in the post what specific actions he wanted citizens to take.

His remarks add to ongoing discussions about public participation, leadership and the enforcement of court decisions.

The post also appeared alongside a discussion about live-streaming election results, a subject that has attracted renewed attention as Parliament considers changes to electoral laws ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The National Assembly passed the Elections (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2024, with amendments in October 2026.

Parliament has said it retained the existing provision requiring the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to establish a mechanism for live-streaming results announced at polling stations.

The Bill must still complete the legislative process.

Miguna’s comments come at a time when electoral transparency and accountability remain important public issues.

His post highlights his frustration with what he sees as a failure to take court orders seriously.

However, his claims about his own case should be distinguished from independently established findings.

As debates over justice and election reforms continue, the central question remains how institutions can ensure that laws and court decisions are respected.
