Bad News for Ruto as 69% of Kenyans Want a Different President in 2027
President William Ruto could face stiff competition in the 2027 General Election after fresh poll figures shared online claimed that a majority of Kenyans would rather have another person lead the country.
According to the reported results, Ruto received 26 per cent support, while 69 per cent of those surveyed reportedly preferred a different presidential candidate. If verified, the figures could raise concerns about his popularity as political activities increase ahead of the next election.
However, the research organisation behind the survey, the date it was conducted and the number of participants remain unknown. The findings should therefore be treated carefully until the original report is confirmed.
The reported results emerge as opposition leaders step up efforts to build political partnerships ahead of the 2027 elections. Several politicians are positioning themselves as possible challengers to Ruto.
Among those being discussed are former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Sifuna has recently attracted public interest through the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has increased his visibility in national politics.Meanwhile, Gachagua has continued strengthening his Democracy for Citizens Party as opposition leaders consider working together.
Whether the opposition can agree on a single presidential candidate remains a major concern. If the leaders unite, they could mount a strong challenge against Ruto. However, competing ambitions and disagreements over leadership could prevent them from forming a united team.
Meanwhile, Ruto has continued defending his administration’s performance while highlighting its development plans and projects in roads, affordable housing, healthcare, education and other public services.
The circulating figures also differ from those reported by another polling organisation. A Politrack Africa survey published on October 1, 2026, reportedly placed Ruto at 45.1 per cent, Sifuna at 19.6 per cent and Kalonzo at 10.3 per cent. The survey was conducted between September 15 and 25, 2026.
The contrasting results highlight the need to examine the source, timing and methods used in each survey before reaching conclusions about the country’s political mood.
With the 2027 elections approaching, public opinion and political alliances are expected to play an important role in determining the outcome.
