NPP’s Paul Yandoh Praises Ibrahim Mahama For Transforming Damang

In a surprising move, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Director, Paul Yandoh, has praised Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama for his work at Damang Gold Mine.

Paul Yandoh said he will be truthful about what he has seen in Damang. According to him, the people of Damang are now enjoying the real benefits of having a gold mine in their town.

Yandoh said he has personally witnessed the ongoing developments and believes residents are beginning to see tangible benefits from the mine.

This praise comes after Ibrahim Mahama’s company, Engineers and Planners (E&P), took over operations at Damang Gold Mine in April 2026. The takeover happened after the previous operator’s lease expired and after a competitive selection process.

Since the takeover, development projects have become visible in the area. One of the biggest changes is road construction. Residents have said the improved roads have made journeys between Damang and Kumasi easier and less tiring.

Paul Yandoh said the projects show how a mining company can help its host community when it pays attention to the needs of the people. He said the developments have strengthened his belief that the people are finally benefiting from the gold in their land, not just watching it being taken away.

What makes Yandoh’s statement big is his background. He is a known NPP communicator, from the opposition party. His decision to publicly praise Ibrahim Mahama, who is the brother of President John Dramani Mahama, shows that the work in Damang is beyond party politics.

The story in Damang is not only about roads. It is about jobs. The new management has faced high expectations to turn gold production into jobs and better living conditions.

Residents have welcomed the changes but are also asking for more. Some are calling for more job opportunities, especially for women and National Service personnel, who want to work directly at the mine instead of being posted to other places where allowances are low.

Yandoh’s message is simple: For years, mining communities did not feel the impact of gold mining. Now, in Damang, the benefits are becoming visible to the ordinary people.

He says he will be truthful – what Ibrahim Mahama is doing in Damang deserves praise.
