Adwoa Safo Eyes Dome-Kwabenya Return After Missing Bawumia Running Mate Slot

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo is reportedly preparing to launch a bid to reclaim her parliamentary seat after failing to secure the vice-presidential running mate position alongside Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Reports by Ghanaian Citizen TV on Friday, October 23, 2026, indicate that the former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection has shifted her focus back to constituency politics. Having previously served as a prominent female voice in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), her reported comeback attempt has placed her political future back under national scrutiny.

Safo’s name had circulated widely in political discussions as a potential running mate for Dr. Bawumia during the NPP’s internal leadership considerations. However, after the slot went to another candidate, Dome-Kwabenya has re-emerged as her main pathway for a political resurgence.

A return to the parliamentary race will test her remaining leverage among local NPP delegates and voters following years marked by executive appointments, legislative responsibilities, and public controversy.

While her extensive experience as a former deputy majority leader and cabinet minister could strengthen her campaign, her candidacy is expected to divide opinions within the party. Some grassroots members view her return as a welcome move to solidify the NPP’s hold on the key constituency, while others favor fresh candidates.

Dome-Kwabenya remains a strategically vital constituency in the Greater Accra Region, making any primary contest involving a high-profile figure like Safo a closely watched political event. Party members now await a formal declaration of her candidacy to see how grassroots delegates respond to her potential return.
