Sarkodie’s Father Reveals Why He Named His Son After Michael Jackson

Sarkodie’s father, Augustine Owusu Addo, has shared the personal story behind the rapper’s name and the emotional pride he feels when watching his son perform before thousands of fans.

Augustine revealed that he named his son Michael after the late pop icon Michael Jackson, whom he admired. At the time, he had no idea that the name would one day be associated with one of Ghana’s most successful musicians.

“I knew he would do something big, but I never imagined it would be this big,” he said, reflecting on how far his son has come in the music industry.

His pride was particularly evident when he recalled watching Sarkodie perform before a huge crowd in Kumasi during last year’s Rapperholic Homecoming Concert.

Augustine said the sight of his son commanding the stage and hearing thousands of people shouting his name overwhelmed him with emotion.

“When I saw my son on stage [last year’s Rapperholic], with a large crowd gathered and shouting his name, I cried,” he recounted.

The moment offered a glimpse into the personal side of Sarkodie’s success, showing how deeply his achievements have affected the family members who watched his journey unfold.

Augustine also disclosed that before Sarkodie became widely known for his rap ability, the musician had a strong interest in dancing. That early passion was part of the story of a young boy who would eventually establish himself as a major figure in Ghanaian music.
