Latest Opinion Poll Sparks A Heated Debate, Reveals Who Is Leading Kenya’s Presidential Candidate

President William Ruto has taken the lead in a new opinion poll ahead of the 2027 General Election, placing him ahead of several opposition leaders seeking to challenge his re-election bid.

According to a Politrack Research Team survey published by The Star on October 1, 2026, Ruto commands 45.1 per cent support among respondents asked who they would vote for if the election were held at the time of the survey.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna emerged second with 19.6 per cent, followed by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at 10.3 per cent. Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i garnered 7.2 per cent, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua received 6 per cent.

The survey was conducted between September 15 and 25, attracting 20,419 respondents through a text-based platform.

The findings come amid growing political realignments as leaders position themselves ahead of the highly anticipated election. Ruto continues to promote his administration’s development agenda, while opposition figures have criticised the government over the cost of living, unemployment and governance.

Sifuna has been building momentum through his Linda Mwananchi movement, while Gachagua continues mobilising supporters under the Democracy for the Citizens Party.

Meanwhile, 8.4 per cent of respondents remained undecided, suggesting voter preferences could shift before election day.

However, the poll reflects opinion at the time of the survey and does not determine the final election outcome.
