I Was a Serious Porn Addict in JHS — Former Rapper Turned Born-Again Christian Yaw Siki Reveals

Ghanaian gospel musician and former rapper Yaw Siki has opened up about his struggles with pornography addiction before becoming a Christian, explaining how the habit began during his Junior High School (JHS) years and later influenced his lifestyle.

Yaw Siki, who transitioned from secular music to gospel after embracing Christianity, disclosed that his popular song Wo Pe Dodo reflected aspects of his life before his religious transformation, including the sexual desires and behaviours he said he struggled with during that period.

According to the musician, his exposure to pornographic content began when he was still a student, after a female friend informed him that one of their classmates had obtained a pornographic cassette, prompting them to watch it out of curiosity.

He explained that what initially appeared to be a one-time experience gradually developed into a repeated habit, eventually becoming an addiction that he struggled with as he grew older.

“Out of curiosity, we watched. And by watching, that’s how my porn addiction began. Just by watching my first porn video, I started watching. I watched from time to time, gradually, gradually, and then I became addicted,” Yaw Siki said.

The gospel musician explained that his early exposure to pornography affected the way he understood sex and influenced some of his decisions as he progressed from adolescence into adulthood.

He further disclosed that he became sexually active at a young age and later developed other sexual habits, including masturbation and paying for sexual services, describing experiences that formed part of his life before his conversion to Christianity.

His account provides insight into the personal struggles he says he faced before changing the direction of his life and pursuing a career centred on gospel music and Christian teachings.

Yaw Siki was previously known for his work as a rapper in Ghana’s secular music industry, where Wo Pe Dodo became one of the songs associated with his name before he made a significant change in his personal life and musical direction.

His decision to speak about his past offers listeners an opportunity to understand the experiences he associates with his transformation, particularly his account of how habits formed during his school years continued into adulthood.

The musician’s revelations also bring attention to the importance of conversations about young people’s exposure to sexually explicit material, especially when such exposure occurs out of curiosity and without adequate guidance or understanding.

Yaw Siki’s story centres on his personal experiences and the changes he says followed his decision to embrace Christianity, with his past lifestyle now forming part of the testimony he shares as a gospel musician.

Through his account, he has provided further details about the circumstances that shaped his early understanding of sexuality and the habits he says he developed before turning towards a different path in life.
