Agyeman-Rawlings family unveils Nana Konadu’s tomb on first anniversary

The family of the late former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has held a tomb unveiling ceremony at the Military Cemetery in Accra to mark the first anniversary of her passing.

The ceremony, held on Friday, October 23, 2026, brought together family members and other dignitaries to honour her memory and reflect on her contributions to Ghana’s public life, women’s empowerment and national development.

Wreaths were laid in her honour by the Government and people of Ghana, her surviving children, the Agyeman-Rawlings family and the 31st December Women’s Movement, an organisation with which she was closely associated.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, expressed gratitude to the Vice President and Chairperson of the Armed Forces Council, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Military High Command and all those who supported the ceremony.

She acknowledged their contributions to the successful organisation of the event and reaffirmed the family’s commitment to preserving and upholding Nana Konadu’s legacy.

Nana Konadu, wife of Ghana’s former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a prominent figure in the country’s political and social landscape.

Through her public engagements and work with the 31st December Women’s Movement, she championed women’s empowerment and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women and children.

The tomb unveiling offered the family and attendees an opportunity to pay tribute to her life and reflect on the mark she left on Ghana’s national development.
