With the early-season title race tightening and several teams seeking a change in fortunes, Sunday’s fixtures include important contests at both ends of the table.
Medeama SC will look to respond to their first defeat of the season when they welcome Aduana FC to the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium.
The leaders have taken 14 points from seven matches and have scored more goals than any other side in the league, with 13. Aduana are one point behind them and arrive in confidence after a 1-0 victory over FC Ashanti Gold’04.
The Fire Club have conceded only four goals this season, giving them one of the division’s best defensive records. They will test a Medeama side that has won its past seven home league matches.
Asante Kotoko travel to the Len Clay Stadium to play FC Ashanti Gold’04, aiming to record successive league wins for the first time this season after beating Young Apostles 2-1.
The Porcupine Warriors have not won any of their three away league games, while Ashanti Gold have won all three of their home fixtures since returning to the top flight.
Only one point separates the teams, increasing the significance of the derby in the standings.
Dreams FC remain without a league win and will host Vision FC at the Tuba Astroturf.
The Still Believe lads are bottom with three points from seven games, having drawn three and lost four. A 1-1 draw with Port City FC last weekend provided encouragement, although Dreams have conceded 11 goals.
Vision are also in the relegation zone and have gone five matches without a win. Both clubs have an opportunity to revive their campaigns.
FC Samartex 1996 take on Berekum Chelsea at Golden City Park, with the home side seeking a third straight league victory.
Chelsea beat Heart of Lions 2-0 away last time out, while Samartex moved up to third after defeating leaders Medeama 2-1. The Timber Giants will attempt to improve a poor record in Berekum, where they have failed to score in their past four league visits.
Bechem United host newly promoted Debibi United FC at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in a Bono-area derby. Bechem lost narrowly to Basake Holy Stars last weekend but have won all three home league games this season. Debibi ended a three-match losing run with a 1-0 win over Gold Stars.
Karela United FC welcome newly promoted Port City FC to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale. Karela lost 2-0 to Swedru All Blacks but have won all three home fixtures this season. Sixth-placed Port City, on 11 points, are seeking to end a two-match winless run.
Swedru All Blacks, seventh with 11 points, visit Young Apostles in Wenchi after consecutive wins. Young Apostles are 17th following five defeats in seven matches, although both of their victories have come at home.
