“When he was about to die, he complained of his heart” – Maame Dokono Opens Up on Kwame Dzokoto

She made the remarks in an interview with Bessah Gh on the sidelines of the Ghana Legends Awards 2026 on October 22. Her comments came days after news broke that the actor had passed away.

Recalling his final days, Maame Dokono said Dzokoto had raised concerns about his heart before his death. “It’s rather unfortunate this happened. When he was about to die, he complained of his heart,” she said.

The actress also turned to Dzokoto’s years as host of the food-focused television programme Edzibanaa, in which he was regularly seen sampling a wide range of meals. In her view, the heavy eating on the show contributed to his weight gain, which she described as unhealthy.

She used the moment to urge the public to be careful about what and how much they eat. “I feel we don’t have to eat every food we come across,” she said, repeating her concern that the demands of the show had affected him. She closed her remarks with a prayer for his repose.

Kwame Dzokoto was an actor and comedian, and many Ghanaians knew him best as the face of Edzibanaa. Maame Dokono’s comments add to the tributes and reflections that have followed his passing.
