Once We Fix Our Economy, No Zone Or Demographic Group Will Be Left Behind–Makinde

According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, October 23, 2026, Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), on Thursday criticised President Bola Tinubu’s popular “Emi Lokan” slogan as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

He questioned the idea behind the slogan and called for a political process that allows Nigerians to determine their preferred leader.

The Oyo State governor argued that Nigerians should not be subjected to what he described as “turn-by-turn nepotism” when deciding who should lead the country.

He maintained that the presidency should not be treated as an entitlement passed from one individual or group to another, stressing the importance of allowing citizens to freely choose their next president.

Makinde made the remarks during the APM town hall meeting held in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Thursday.

The gathering provided an opportunity for the party to present its political direction and discuss its plans for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.

The APM presidential candidate emphasised the need for a country where leadership decisions are guided by the interests of Nigerians rather than arrangements that favour particular individuals or groups.

His position focused on ensuring that the electoral process remains open to the people’s choices and that national leadership reflects their aspirations.

He also outlined the party’s Reset Nigeria agenda, which he said centres on building a country where infrastructure development serves as a foundation for economic growth.

The programme is intended to address challenges affecting the population, particularly young people and women, through policies that promote development and improve opportunities.

According to Makinde, the agenda seeks to ensure that economic progress benefits Nigerians across different regions and demographic groups.

He stressed that strengthening the economy would help reduce inequalities and create an environment where citizens could participate more meaningfully in national development, regardless of their location or background.

Explaining the expected impact of the programme, Makinde said economic recovery would promote inclusive development across the country.

He stated, “Once we fix our economy, no zone will be left behind, and no demographic group will be left behind.”
