Adwoa Safo Announces Return to Dome-Kwabenya NPP Parliamentary Race
According to JoyNews on Friday, October 23, 2026, former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries again, signalling her plans to return to Parliament in the 2028 general elections.
In a statement dated Thursday, October 22, 2026, the former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection said her decision followed considerable reflection, consultations and engagements with party leadership and executives.
Adwoa Safo explained that although she had previously indicated her intention to pursue opportunities beyond the constituency, she had reconsidered her position and concluded that serving the people of Dome-Kwabenya remained a priority.
She formally declared her intention to seek the NPP’s nomination when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary primaries.
“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad-based engagement with party leadership and executives and guided by my own conviction and unwavering loyalty to the Principles and Values of our political tradition, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries,” she stated.
The former lawmaker said her decision was motivated by her continued commitment to the constituency and her belief that she still had more to contribute to its development.
She described Dome-Kwabenya as one of Ghana’s fastest-growing constituencies, noting that its expansion had created opportunities as well as developmental challenges requiring sustained attention.
Reflecting on her 12 years in Parliament, Adwoa Safo highlighted her experience working with residents, party members, community leaders, religious leaders and other stakeholders to address local concerns and support development.
She acknowledged that although progress had been made during her time as MP, more work remained to improve the lives of residents.
“While much remains to be done, I remain committed to building on the progress we made together and work tirelessly towards a better future for Dome-Kwabenya,” she added.
Adwoa Safo previously represented Dome-Kwabenya for three parliamentary terms before losing the NPP primary ahead of the 2024 general elections to Mike Oquaye Jnr.
Oquaye Jnr subsequently contested the general election but lost the seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu.
Her latest announcement marks a change from her earlier position that she would not contest the constituency again. It also places her back in the conversation about the NPP’s efforts to regain Dome-Kwabenya in the next general election.
However, declaring an intention to contest does not automatically make her the party’s candidate. She will have to participate in the NPP’s internal selection process and secure the necessary support to represent the party in the constituency.
The announcement is likely to draw attention from party members and political observers as the NPP prepares for its next parliamentary primaries.
For now, Adwoa Safo has made her intentions clear: she wants another opportunity to represent Dome-Kwabenya and continue contributing to its development.
