Fiifi Kwetey Responds to Question About Asiedu Nketiah’s Possible 2028 Presidential Bid
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, has declined to comment directly on whether the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, intends to contest the 2028 presidential election.
Kwetey was asked by a journalist whether Asiedu Nketiah was considering entering the race to become the NDC’s presidential candidate for the next general election.
In response, the NDC General Secretary said: “When you meet Asiedu Nketiah, you can ask him that.”
His brief response left the question of Asiedu Nketiah’s possible presidential ambition unanswered, suggesting that the party chairman would be the appropriate person to address the matter himself.
The exchange has drawn attention to speculation about potential candidates who could emerge within the NDC as political discussions surrounding the 2028 general elections gradually intensify.
Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as General Mosquito, is a longstanding figure in Ghanaian politics. He previously served as the NDC’s General Secretary before becoming the party’s National Chairman, a position that places him at the centre of its organisational and political activities.
His experience within the party has made questions about his future political ambitions a subject of interest among party supporters and political observers.
However, Kwetey’s response does not confirm that Asiedu Nketiah intends to contest the presidency, nor does it establish that he has ruled out such a possibility.
The NDC is expected to make decisions about its leadership and presidential candidate through its established internal processes ahead of the 2028 polls.
Until Asiedu Nketiah personally addresses the issue or makes a formal declaration, his position on a possible presidential bid remains unclear.
