It Will Help Ghana – PAC And Abena Osei-Asare Storms NPA To Assess Downstream Petroleum Operations

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has undertaken a working visit to the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to gain first-hand insight into the operations of the downstream petroleum regulator.

Disclosing this in a statement, the Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare, said the visit was aimed at deepening the Committee’s understanding of how the NPA regulates and monitors activities in the downstream sector.

“During the visit, we were taken through the Authority’s National Command Centre, where we observed how its Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) monitors petroleum tankers in real time, tracks their movements and helps detect possible tampering or irregularities during transportation,” she stated.

According to her, the visit also provided the PAC an opportunity to engage with the Authority on challenges relating to petroleum distribution, product losses and the enforcement of regulations.

She noted that such engagements are crucial in helping the Committee assess the effectiveness of existing controls, identify areas for improvement and strengthen accountability in the management of petroleum product transportation, marking and monitoring.

The working visit forms part of PAC’s broader mandate to ensure efficiency, transparency and accountability in public sector operations.
