Ross Owusu Esq. Welcomes Afenyo-Markin’s Fresh Legal Action Against Sammy Gyamfi and Eric Adjei

Ross Owusu Esq. has welcomed Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s decision to refile his legal cases against Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi and National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) Chief Executive Eric Adjei.

Owusu expressed satisfaction with the development, stating that he believes the fresh legal action will give Afenyo-Markin an opportunity to clear his name. He also expressed confidence that the Minority Leader would eventually be exonerated in the cases.

“I’m very pleased that Afenyo-Markin has refiled his case against Sammy Gyamfi and Eric Adjei to clear his name. I have no doubt he will be exonerated,” Owusu stated.

Afenyo-Markin has initiated fresh defamation proceedings against both officials at the Accra High Court following developments in earlier cases involving allegations he considers damaging to his reputation.

The legal dispute involving Gyamfi arose from public exchanges over Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme and questions surrounding its financial performance. During the exchanges, comments were made about Afenyo-Markin that he considered defamatory, prompting him to pursue legal action.

An earlier defamation suit against Gyamfi was set aside by the Accra High Court on October 14, 2026, after the court found procedural defects in the writ. The ruling concerned the validity of the court process and did not determine whether the statements at the centre of the dispute were defamatory. Afenyo-Markin subsequently filed a fresh suit in accordance with the court’s interpretation of the applicable rules.

In the case involving Eric Adjei, Afenyo-Markin discontinued an earlier action at the Achimota Circuit Court before initiating fresh proceedings at the Accra High Court. The new case concerns statements allegedly made by Adjei during an appearance on Peace FM.

The fresh filings indicate that Afenyo-Markin intends to continue pursuing the substantive claims against both officials through the courts.
