Atwoli Changes Tune On Sifuna’s Presidency, Advises Him On What To Do To Win 2027 Elections
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has attracted political attention following his reported determination to challenge President William Ruto in the August 2027 General Election, as questions emerge over the alliances that could shape his presidential ambitions.
Sifuna, who leads The Equitable Party (TEP), has risen rapidly in Kenya’s political landscape, having previously served as the secretary-general of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). His reported presidential ambitions have surprised several political observers, given the competitive nature of the race for State House.
Ahead of the anticipated contest, Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has reportedly advised Sifuna to avoid aligning himself with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Atwoli argues that cooperating with Gachagua could potentially benefit President Ruto, pointing to the political controversies surrounding the former deputy president, who was impeached in 2024.
The remarks come days after Sifuna and members of his Linda Mwananchi movement reportedly met Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County following his return from a United States tour.
The meeting has sparked speculation about possible opposition cooperation ahead of the next election.
However, whether such an alliance would strengthen Sifuna’s presidential ambitions or undermine his national appeal remains uncertain as political realignments continue.
With the 2027 elections approaching, Sifuna faces the challenge of building a broad coalition capable of competing against Ruto.
