Malava Crowd Breaks Into Sifuna and Wantam Chants as UDA MP Ndakwa Addresses Them
Malava Member of Parliament David Ndakwa addressed a tense gathering in Malava, Kakamega County, after chants supporting Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the “Wantam” slogan interrupted proceedings at a public event.
A video circulating on social media shows Ndakwa speaking to the crowd as political slogans were heard. The incident comes amid competition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The chants included calls supporting Sifuna, who has attracted backing from the Linda Mwananchi movement, and “Wantam,” a slogan used by some opposition supporters to argue that President William Ruto should serve only one term. Ruto has said he intends to seek re-election in 2027.
Ndakwa is a member of the United Democratic Alliance, the party associated with Ruto. Ndakwa won the seat in a November 2025 by-election after former MP Malulu Injendi died.
Reports about an incident in Malava in September said political mobiliser Bernard Shirako used a speaking opportunity at a funeral in Lukume, Kabrasa West, to call for support for Sifuna’s possible presidential bid. A section of the crowd responded with pro-Ruto chants, and men described as part of Ndakwa’s entourage took the microphone and escorted Shirako away from the podium.
The video has renewed discussion about opposition messages in UDA strongholds and local political tensions. However, the footage alone does not establish the full circumstances of the gathering or the complete context of Ndakwa’s remarks.
Political activity is expected to intensify as leaders seek support ahead of the 2027 polls in the coming months. Sifuna and other opposition figures have been building support through public appearances, while UDA leaders continue to promote Ruto’s re-election bid.
The incident underlines how political slogans can shape the atmosphere at public gatherings as parties and movements compete for support in Western Kenya.
