‘The presidency is not a retirement package’ – A Plus slams Asiedu Nketiah

According to report by Dunkwatv on Thursday 22, 2026, Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, Kwame A Plus, has fired a fierce critique at Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), following reports surrounding the veteran politician’s presidential ambitions. In a strongly worded statement, the lawmaker questioned both Asiedu Nketiah’s developmental track record and his suitability for the nation’s highest office given his age.

A Plus challenged the NDC Chairman to address why his home region continues to suffer from severe underdevelopment despite being endowed with rich natural resources like gold, timber, and fertile agricultural land. Highlighting Asiedu Nketiah’s decades-long career in public service, the Gomoa Central MP pointed out that the region’s economic struggles persist despite the politician having been in governance long before recent economic shifts.

In addition to development concerns, A Plus strongly argued against electing another elderly head of state. Pointing to the numbers, he noted that Asiedu Nketiah, currently 69, would be 72 years old if inaugurated in 2029 and could potentially serve until age 80 if he completed two terms. Emphasizing that high political office requires measurable accountability, vision, and energetic leadership, A Plus stressed that the presidency must not be treated as a retirement reward or compensation for long years spent engaging in political sarcasm.

Furthermore, he cautioned against repeating past political pitfalls, warning that any future government led by long-standing political figures risks becoming embroiled in controversies similar to those seen in previous administrations. Defending his own record, A Plus boldly asserted that despite having served in office for less than two years, his tangible achievements as Gomoa Central MP already surpass those of the veteran NDC Chairman.
