NDC Tells Ghanaians The Truth About Obuasi SHS Headmaster in Sexual Assault

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to respect the ongoing investigation into sexual misconduct allegations involving Zakaria Abdulai, the interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, insisting that no individual will receive protection because of their political affiliation.

NDC General Secretary Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey gave the assurance during a press conference on Thursday, October 22, 2026, where he called on law enforcement authorities to investigate the allegations independently and ensure that the facts are established.

Mr Kwetey stressed that the party does not condone sexual misconduct and would not attempt to influence the investigation or prevent justice from taking its course.

He maintained that the NDC and the government would not intervene to protect anyone found to have violated the law.

According to him, the party would accept the findings of the investigation, regardless of whether the evidence exonerates the headmaster or establishes his culpability.

Mr Kwetey said Abdulai would be required to face the full legal consequences if investigators establish that he committed an offence. Conversely, he said the party would welcome an outcome that clears him of the allegations.

The comments follow an investigative report by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni that brought allegations of sexual assault involving the headmaster into the public domain.

The case is under investigation, with the docket reportedly forwarded to the Attorney-General for further action.

Abdulai, who previously served as the NDC’s Juaben constituency secretary, has been interdicted from his position as headmaster. He has also resigned from his role within the party at the constituency level.

The NDC’s position comes amid public interest in the case and calls for accountability, particularly concerning allegations involving individuals who hold public or institutional responsibilities.

The party has maintained that the investigation must proceed without political interference and that any determination of guilt should be based on the findings of the relevant authorities.
