Damang Gold Mine dismisses claims it is only processing stockpiles
Damang Gold Mine Ltd has dismissed claims that its operations are limited to processing existing stockpiles, insisting that active mining is ongoing at the site.
Frank Dankyi Agyei, Manager of Mining at the company, said the mine had deployed heavy-duty equipment and a fleet of trucks to support its operations as part of efforts to increase production.
“We are actively mining here, as you can see. Claims that we are only treating existing stockpiles are absolutely false,” he said.
Speaking on a special edition of Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen in Tarkwa-Damang, Mr Agyei explained that the company was undertaking a major cutback project at the Amoanda pit to consolidate several smaller, previously mined pits into one larger operation.
He said the Tomato East pit, Amoanda Pit 4, and Amoanda Pits 2 and 3 had previously been mined as separate, isolated pits.
The ongoing cutback, he explained, was designed to incorporate the pits into a single mining area with an estimated strike length of about 1.8 kilometres.
Mr Agyei said the operation had deployed two 9400-series excavators, a Hitachi EX2000 excavator and another excavator identified as a 113 model, with at least four excavators operating at the site.
He added that about 50 trucks were also working at the mine, describing the scale of equipment and activity as evidence of the investment being made to sustain operations.
“We have a minimum of four excavators, and we have plans of expanding to Rex Pit as well. We have about 50 trucks working here. This is a massive investment, and we are breathing a lot of life into this project to be able to deliver on our requirements,” he said.
The mining manager maintained that the company was committed to advancing its mining activities and meeting its operational targets, rejecting suggestions that the mine was relying solely on previously mined material.
