Seth Kwame Dzokoto: A life of laughter, airwaves and service
Reports circulating on Thursday, October 22, 2026, indicate that Ghanaian actor, comedian, broadcaster and politician Seth Kwame Dzokoto has died.
Mr Dzokoto is said to have collapsed during a panel discussion on Owass Radio in Tarkwa and was later pronounced dead.
Seth Kwame Dzokoto was born to an Ewe father and a Fante mother. He was raised largely by his mother in a fishing community in Sekondi in the Western Region.
That coastal upbringing later informed both his humour and his connection to ordinary Ghanaians.
He began his media career in Tarkwa at Dynamite FM before moving to Skyy Power FM in Takoradi, where he hosted the popular mid-morning show “Odam Sokoo.”
His lively style and comic timing made him a household name in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.
He later worked at Hello FM in Kumasi and continued broadcasting in Accra. Radio remained especially dear to him.
In a September 2026 interview he said: “I love doing radio… When I’m on air, psychologically, I feel I’m the only one they are listening to.”
Dzokoto became nationally known through the long-running television comedy series Efiewura, where his comic characters (including roles often referred to as Judge Koboo) delighted audiences. He also appeared in the series Osumesi.
He found further success as host of Edziban on TV3, a culinary programme that took viewers around Ghana discovering local food joints and cuisines. T
he show mixed humour with genuine exploration of Ghanaian food culture and earned industry recognition, including a CIMG Television Programme of the Year award.
Dzokoto always insisted he was not a “foodie” in the gluttonous sense; the exaggerated eating was part of the entertainment designed to make viewers hungry for the featured restaurants.
A committed member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dzokoto contested the Tarkwa-Nsuaem parliamentary seat in the 2016 general election but lost to the New Patriotic Party’s George Mireku Duker.
He later sought the position of District/Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem.
In a September 2026 interview he revealed that he completed the full interview process but felt he lacked a senior advocate within the party to push his candidacy after the formal stage.
He contributed to the NDC’s Tourism, Arts and Culture manifesto and remained active in party work in the Western Region.
He also held an LLB and, in August 2025, graduated with a Master of Science in Defence and International Politics from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC).
He credited the inspiration for the degree to a radio discussion by Professor Vladimir Antwi-Danso on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and publicly thanked businessman Ibrahim Mahama for supporting his studies.
In the months before the latest reports, Dzokoto had been open about health challenges. He battled high blood pressure, diabetes and heart-related complications.
After intervention by First Lady Lordina Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama funded surgery abroad for him.
In September 2026, following public concern over his appearance at an event, he firmly dismissed death and serious-illness rumours, repeatedly stating “I’m not dead” and urging bloggers to verify information before publishing.
Kwame Dzokoto occupied a distinctive place in Ghanaian public life. He could make people laugh on Efiewura and Edziban, hold an audience on radio with warmth and wit, contest elections, study geopolitics, and still return to the airwaves or the screen.
Colleagues and fans remember him as approachable, hardworking and deeply connected to the Western Region that shaped him.
As the reports of his death circulate, many Ghanaians are reflecting on the laughter he brought and the energy he invested in both entertainment and public service.
