Broda Shaggi Recounts Months of Uncertainty After Stray Bullet Injury
The skit maker shared his experience in a YouTube video released on Wednesday night, recounting the fear, pain and uncertainty he faced after being hit by a stray bullet in March 2026.
Broda Shaggi was reportedly shot while filming a comedy skit beneath a bridge in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, on a Sunday afternoon. At the time, a police source confirmed that the entertainer had sustained a gunshot wound, although the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear.
The Ogun State Police Command initially said it could not confirm whether the shooting occurred within its jurisdiction. The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, urged the public to refrain from circulating unverified reports while investigations continued.
Recalling the incident, Broda Shaggi said he was carrying out a routine brand activation when the bullet struck him. He explained that he lost consciousness before reaching the hospital but remembered praying as those around him sought medical help.
“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So I didn’t even know how we got there. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.
The comedian described the moments after the shooting as frightening, saying he was desperate to hear reassuring words from medical personnel as he struggled with the pain and sight of his blood.
“A lot was happening at the same time. I was sweating. I was holding my leg, you know, I was seeing blood, and all I wanted to hear was a doctor or a nurse telling me Samuel, you’ll be fine,” he recounted.
Beyond his immediate health concerns, the actor said he feared the injury could prevent him from returning to the kind of performances that had made him famous.
He explained that his comedy brand involves dancing, singing, drumming and other physical activities, making the possibility of losing mobility particularly distressing.
Broda Shaggi also disclosed that he had maintained a demanding work schedule since 2018, moving between writing scripts, filming skits, recording music and travelling for engagements without taking significant breaks.
“Since 2018 till date, I never rest. It’s always back-to-back. If I’m not writing I’m shooting. If I’m not shooting, I’m in the studio making music. If I’m not making music, I’m travelling for something,” he stated.
Being away from work for months also raised concerns that his fans might lose interest in his content while he recovered.
Despite his condition, the entertainer tried to keep himself occupied in hospital by writing and launching a YouTube series. However, watching his colleagues continue their activities sometimes left him emotional.
“There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh, and sometimes I would start to cry because I wasn’t sure if I would still be able to do all these things they’re doing again,” he said.
Broda Shaggi said he underwent surgery in Nigeria but subsequently required further treatment and physiotherapy. About four months after the incident, he travelled to Dubai for additional medical care.
He said the treatment abroad brought considerable improvement, enabling him to stand with support on the second day and walk with crutches by the third day.
Reflecting on how narrowly he believed he had escaped a worse outcome, the comedian expressed gratitude that the bullet struck his hip rather than his head or another vital organ.
“It was a stray bullet, and it came this way to my hip. What if it had come this way and hit my head or hit any vital organ?” he asked.
Although he still relies on crutches for support, Broda Shaggi said his mobility has improved significantly compared with the early stages of his recovery, when he could neither walk independently nor place his leg on the floor.
“I’m still using my crutches for now. But there was a period where I couldn’t move without the two crutches. I couldn’t even put my leg on the floor, you know. But now I can walk. I can stand alone without crutches, but I still have to support myself with the crutches,” he explained.
The comedian described surviving the shooting as a second chance at life and expressed appreciation to those who have continued to support him throughout his recovery.
“I’m grateful to be alive. It’s a second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggi back on your screen because right now I’m coming with exciting projects,” he added.
