MP James Gakuya Names One Senior Opposition Leader Who He Doubts May Not Be With Them In 2027

Embakasi North MP James Gakuya has expressed confidence that opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna and Rigathi Gachagua will eventually unite in their efforts to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Gakuya said he believes the three leaders will remain together throughout the political journey, amid ongoing discussions about forming a united opposition coalition.

“I know Kalonzo, Sifuna and Gachagua will finish this journey together. As for my brother Matiang’i, I really don’t know,” Gakuya stated.

His remarks highlight the uncertainty surrounding former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s position in the emerging opposition arrangements.

Opposition leaders have been engaging in discussions over possible alliances, with questions remaining about who will lead the presidential ticket and how different political camps will work together. Gakuya, an ally of Gachagua, has also declared interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

The opposition’s ability to agree on a common candidate and coordinate its political strategy remains a key issue as preparations for the next election continue.
