Mbavu Destroyer Hints at Peter Salasya Boxing Match in December as Vurugu 3 Plans Emerge

Kenyan boxer Mbavu Destroyer has hinted at a possible boxing showdown with Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya during the upcoming Vurugu 3 event scheduled for December 2026.

The development emerged on Thursday, October 22, after Mbavu shared a social media post expressing confidence and determination ahead of the anticipated contest. His message suggested that he was preparing for a demanding challenge, although the fight’s official confirmation remains unclear.

In his post, the boxer declared that he would not back down, using a combination of English and Kiswahili to communicate his readiness for the proposed encounter.

“This is what I was born to do… whoever lives by the sword dies by the sword, and whoever lives by the boxing gloves dies by the boxing gloves… I won’t ever give up… tupatane December… Nimejaaa ngori na itakua mbayaaaa,” Mbavu wrote.

The statement, which indicated that the two could meet in December, quickly drew attention because Salasya had previously been linked to another celebrity boxing match.

Mbavu also shared a screenshot of a PDF document titled Peter Salasya vs Mbavu Vurugu Three. The document appeared to suggest that the two had been considered for a matchup at the event.

However, the boxer did not provide further details about the proposed contest, including the date, venue, rules or whether both parties had formally agreed to fight.

As a result, the possible Salasya-Mbavu bout remains an emerging development rather than a fully confirmed fixture.

The latest announcement also raises questions about the original plans for Vurugu 3, which had previously featured a proposed boxing encounter between Salasya and former radio presenter Andrew Kibe.

In September, Kibe publicly confirmed that he expected to face the Mumias East MP in a boxing ring in December.

“In December, I’m going to be getting into a boxing ring with Salasya,” Kibe said at the time.

The announcement generated interest because it brought together a politician and a media personality in a contest that was expected to attract attention beyond the traditional boxing audience.

However, Kibe later disclosed that the arrangement had changed and that the proposed fight would be handled by a different outfit rather than Oga Obinna’s Vurugu event.

“We’ve gone a different way,” Kibe said, indicating that Obinna was no longer involved in the arrangement.

The change left uncertainty surrounding the original Salasya-Kibe matchup and its connection to the December event.

In July, Obinna had indicated that preparations for the proposed fight were progressing, revealing that Salasya had already signed his contract while Kibe was yet to complete his part of the agreement.

“Tuko on. 50% done, Salasya has signed his contract, so mwambie Kibe asign yake,” Obinna said in an update.

Obinna had also previously announced that Vurugu 3 would feature a fight between Mbavu Destroyer and a Somali boxer.

Mbavu’s latest post therefore introduces the possibility of a different matchup involving Salasya, although it does not establish whether the earlier plans have been cancelled or revised.

For now, it remains unclear whether Salasya will face Mbavu at Vurugu 3, proceed with the previously discussed contest against Kibe under a separate arrangement, or feature in another fight altogether.

An official announcement from the event organisers or the parties involved would be needed to establish the final fight card and confirm the arrangements.

If the proposed matchup is confirmed, the encounter would place Mbavu, known for his boxing persona, against a sitting legislator who has also attracted public attention through plans to enter the ring.

Until further details emerge, however, the December showdown remains a possibility rather than a confirmed boxing fixture.
