New Super Eagles Striker Makes First Statement After Helping Club End Losing Run

According to a report by Punch on Thursday, October 22, 2026, new Super Eagles striker George Ilenikhena has made his first statement after helping Al-Ittihad end their losing run with a convincing 4-1 victory over Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League on Tuesday.

The Nigerian-born forward scored a goal and provided an assist to earn the official Man of the Match award as Al-Ittihad returned to winning ways after two consecutive defeats.

Speaking to the Saudi press after the match, Ilenikhena emphasized the importance of responding positively to the team’s recent defeats.

“It is very important for us to win this game after losing two games. It is very important to react, and we reacted in the best way, so we are very happy,” he said.

The former Monaco forward missed Al-Ittihad’s 3-2 defeat to Al-Hilal on October 10 because of fitness concerns. He subsequently returned from a minor injury in the team’s 2-1 loss to Shabab Al-Ahli.

However, the 20-year-old made a significant impact against Al-Ettifaq, helping his side secure all three points with an impressive attacking display.

Ilenikhena played for 73 minutes before being substituted for Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri, who scored twice late in the game to complete Al-Ittihad’s 4-1 victory.

Reacting to his substitution, the Nigerian forward stressed that every player must be willing to contribute to the team’s success, regardless of their individual role.

“The coach changed. Everybody will help the team in the best way he can. It is what we did today that we won,” he added.

According to the report, the striker has now scored or provided an assist in each of his last four Saudi Pro League appearances.

His latest contribution will provide a boost for Al-Ittihad as they look to build on their victory and maintain their momentum in the competition.
