He Ruined The Club: Junior Khanye Exposes The Real Reason Kaizer Chiefs Is Falling Apart
Junior Khanye Blames Kaizer Chiefs’ Decline on Kaizer Motaung’s Reduced Involvement
Junior Khanye Reveals When Kaizer Chiefs’ Problems Started as He Questions Kaizer Motaung’s Absence
Former Kaizer Chiefs winger and football analyst Junior Khanye has sparked fresh debate about the club’s leadership, arguing that Amakhosi’s struggles began when club chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung stepped back from the day-to-day running of the Soweto giants.
Khanye believes Motaung, affectionately known as Bra K, played a crucial role in building and maintaining the club’s football identity. According to the outspoken analyst, the changes in leadership and decision-making that followed his reduced involvement contributed to the challenges Chiefs have faced in recent seasons.
Speaking on iDiski TV, Khanye highlighted the importance of Motaung’s football knowledge and experience, suggesting that the club has struggled to maintain the same standards under the leadership structure that followed.
“I think Bra K not being involved and stepping back is where problems started because Bra K knows football,” Khanye said.
Khanye acknowledged Motaung’s contribution to South African football, praising him for creating opportunities and establishing a club that has become one of the country’s most recognisable football institutions.
However, he questioned whether those who assumed greater responsibility after Motaung stepped back had successfully maintained his vision.
Khanye specifically referred to the involvement of Bobby Motaung and sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr, suggesting that changes in the club’s leadership approach coincided with a decline in its competitiveness.
He also criticised aspects of the club’s recruitment strategy, arguing that questionable player signings and decisions involving the technical team have contributed to the difficulties.
In his assessment, Chiefs need stronger football leadership and a more effective approach to identifying players capable of competing at the highest level.
Chiefs’ struggles have become increasingly difficult to ignore, particularly given their history of success and the expectations of their supporters.
The club’s last Betway Premiership title came in 2015, while their Nedbank Cup triumph in 2025 ended a decade-long wait for silverware.
Despite that breakthrough, questions remain about whether Amakhosi can consistently challenge for major honours and close the gap on domestic rivals.
Their performances this season have also attracted scrutiny, with Khanye’s comments adding to the growing conversation about the club’s direction.
Khanye Wants Stronger Football Leadership
Khanye further argued that Chiefs missed an opportunity by not pursuing experienced coach Pitso Mosimane, whom he believes could have brought authority and direction to the club.
Ultimately, his criticism centres on leadership, recruitment and the need for decisive football management.
While his comments represent his personal assessment rather than an established explanation for the club’s difficulties, they raise an important question: can Kaizer Chiefs restore their former dominance without making significant changes to their football operations?
For Amakhosi supporters, the priority remains clear: stronger performances, better recruitment and a sustained return to winning trophies.
