Famous Former Citizen TV News Anchor Pays College Fees for Lady He Found Working as a Security Guard

A woman identified as Alice Muwanga has penned an emotional tribute to veteran journalist Trevor Ombija, crediting him with funding her entire college education when she was a security guard on the verge of dropping out.

In a Facebook post that has since gone viral, Alice said Ombija paid her fees from her second semester of first year until her final exams.

The post carries a photo of the broadcaster dressed in a blue waistcoat and has drawn widespread admiration from Kenyans.

Alice said she was working as a security guard while chasing her dream of becoming a journalist. Their paths crossed when she opened a gate for Ombija while visibly depressed and sad. She wrote that he saw through her distress, and that she resumed classes that same evening.

Since her father had passed away, Alice said Ombija stepped into the role without hesitation. She noted that her late father, Mr Muwanga, would have done the same but lacked the means.

She described Ombija as her destiny helper and second dad, and said he made her dream of becoming a journalist come true.

Alice added that his impact on her life has not faded, even after he left Citizen TV Kenya in 2023 to pursue business interests, including a restaurant venture.

She asked God to protect him and to keep him around for others who may need his help in future. “You are my daddy even if you are young at age,” she wrote.

Many Kenyans praised Ombija for choosing to change lives quietly rather than publicly. For a figure so used to the spotlight, the account offers a rare glimpse of the man behind the screen.
