Body language expert weighs in on Carrie Bickmore’s tearful goodbye

Carrie Bickmore’s tearful farewell to her radio show with Tommy Little revealed a telling difference in how the pair viewed the end of their partnership, according to a body language expert.

After almost a decade on the air together, the hosts of the Carrie & Tommy show are calling time on the drivetime program, with the pair breaking the news to their fans on Wednesday.

The high-rating, long-running series, which is the third most-listened-to network radio program in Australia, is expected to wrap up by year’s end.

Carrie is believed to be defecting to rival station KIIS FM, where she will replace Will McMahon and Woody Whitelaw, who front the Will & Woody drivetime show.

Behavioural specialist Scott Taylor told Daily Mail that Carrie repeatedly looked towards her longtime co-host and spoke about ‘us’ and ‘our lives’, while Tommy focused more on his own disappointment.

Analysing the announcement, Scott highlighted her ‘constant eye contact’ with Tommy and repeated references to their shared experience.

He said her continual use of ‘us’ and ‘our lives’ showed ‘a really strong connection’, with her long-time co-host, along with the ‘validating glances’ she directed towards him as she spoke.

Those observations suggest Carrie was checking in with him emotionally while discussing the end of a significant chapter in their lives.

Her words framed the farewell as something they were experiencing together, with Scott saying she displayed ‘powerful honesty and vulnerability’.

Tommy’s language, meanwhile, reflected ‘some more personal focus from him’, according to the specialist.

The comedian repeatedly used ‘I’ as he discussed his disappointment, openly acknowledging he was fuming that he was being left behind as she moves on to another role in radio.

Despite long-time rumours of a romance between the pair, Scott cautioned against interpreting the emotional exchange as evidence of anything more than a close friendship.

‘No other strong indicators of anything more than a close trusting dynamic from that video by itself,’ he said.

Carrie paid a heartfelt tribute to Tommy while confirming the news to listeners.

‘I’ve loved every minute of doing the show,’ she said.

‘It’s not every day you get to come and have a laugh and call it your job with your best mate and the funniest guy in the country, and that’s what we’ve got to do for the last decade.’

Tommy described the ending of their partnership as ‘really sad’.

‘It’s certainly not how I wanted it to end. I love this job, and I would have kept doing it for a long time,’ he said.

‘But I don’t always get my way, and I feel very grateful. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity. I think we’ve had an amazing job to do.’

Inside Mail broke the news last week that Carrie was eyeing an exit from SCA following the company’s merger with Seven West Media.

Despite Carrie being popular with advertisers and listeners, apparently SCA is ‘quite happy to let her go’ to KIIS drive.

Inside Mail was told that relations have cooled and there is ‘no love lost there’.

Little’s future is less clear, amid murmurs of a bidding war between KIIS and the Hit Network.

If he does end up staying with SCA, all signs point to pairing him with Loren Barry.

SCA wouldn’t comment on the record, though a source cautioned that line-up speculation is rife at this time of year.

The pair’s emotional farewell has brought fresh attention to a friendship that has long fascinated listeners.

The presenters have repeatedly maintained they are friends, despite speculation fuelled by their flirty on-air chemistry, holidays together and affectionate social media exchanges.

In February 2025, the pair enjoyed a trip to Uluru.

The following month, Tommy had tongues wagging with his jokes during The Roast of Carrie Bickmore, declaring she ‘looks better and better’ every day.

‘She’s just getting hotter and hotter, and if you want to know what’s her secret: cosmetic surgery,’ he quipped.

They later enjoyed a Queensland getaway in September, with a bikini-clad Carrie documenting the trip with Tommy by her side.

In February this year, Carrie shared a photograph of the pair embracing and smiling at the LIV Golf tournament in Adelaide.

That same month, they attended the wedding of colleague Jesse Watkins, posing for selfies together.

Romance rumours gathered momentum following Carrie’s split from longtime partner Chris Walker in 2023.

The television presenter announced their separation on Instagram, saying they were focused on co-parenting their children.

Tommy was last publicly linked to environmental activist Natalie Kyriacou in 2021.

The comedian has previously brushed off speculation about Carrie with humour.

‘There have been romance rumours about Carrie and I, but unfortunately, because Carrie is in my age bracket (my Tinder age bracket is legal to dead), I’m not in Carrie’s age bracket. She only likes much older, powerful men,’ he once joked.

Last year, Tommy described Carrie as ‘one of my best mates’, while she has also spoken about how well they work together.

Their professional partnership is now drawing to a close, with the Carrie & Tommy show expected to wrap up by the end of the year.

The pair have hosted together since 2017, building a national audience across the Hit Network.
