PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the comedian sustained a gunshot injury in March while filming a comedy skit in Sango-Ota, Ogun State. The incident landed him in hospital and abruptly halted his public appearances.

For months, Broda Shaggi disappeared from social media, stopped posting skits and left fans anxious about his condition. As concerns over his safety grew, many Nigerians took to social media to pray for his recovery.

The 33-year-old has now broken his silence. In a video he posted on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, he revealed that the injury was so serious that he underwent surgeries both in Nigeria and abroad.

He said: “9th of March, 2026. It was a crazy day. A day in my life I wish never happened. Everything happened so fast that I barely could even understand what was happening around me. It was just a normal day, like a day I would go out for any brand activation until the devil decided to show up. We were done with the activation and already leaving. In fact, we were on the expressway. Traffic backed up because of the crowd, and all of a sudden, I heard a loud bang.

“Everywhere was silent. But I could still see people moving outside, people talking, but I couldn’t hear what they were saying. It was just total silence in the car. Then, I touched my hip and saw blood. That was when it dawned on me that I had been hit by a stray bullet. Emotions were high, I’m not going to lie. Things were running through my mind. Would this be my last day? You know, it was just a crazy day. A crazy day.”

Furthermore, Broda Shaggi said he blacked out after sustaining the injury and remained unconscious until he arrived at the hospital, with no recollection of how he got there.

He recalled desperately praying for survival before medical personnel finally attended to him. The comedian said the hospital staff cut off what he was wearing to locate the bullet wound before administering first aid.

“All that was in my mind was just to survive, to live through that moment because I didn’t want to die. I said, I didn’t want to die. Then, it got to that point where they said they had to take me to another hospital because they didn’t have enough equipment to handle me at that hospital. A lot was happening at once. I was sweating, I was holding my leg, I was seeing blood, and all I wanted to hear was a doctor telling me, ‘Samuel, you’ll be fine, you’ll be all right, you won’t die.’ Fortunately, we got to the next hospital.

“They were swift. They were very helpful. They immediately put me in the emergency room. They started treating the wound, and at that particular time, my mind started settling, and I knew that, okay, I would make it through this moment. So I was partially happy, but I still wanted to be sure that everything was okay. Minutes later, everything was calm. I couldn’t move my leg. Then I started worrying again, and it dawned on me that everything that happened could change my whole life. As a performer, as an artiste, I grew up dancing with my daddy”, said Broda Shaggi.

Additionally, the comedian recalled waking up after surgery in excruciating pain, unable to move the leg the bullet had hit.

He said he became emotional and began questioning God, demanding to know why such a painful experience had happened to him. According to him, he struggled with his emotions and repeatedly asked God why he had to endure the ordeal.

But after questioning God, he turned around and thanked Him, acknowledging that God may have kept him alive for a purpose or wanted him to rest.

“Since 2018 till date, I never rest. It’s always back-to-back. If I’m not writing, I’m shooting. If I’m not shooting, I’m in the studio making music. If I’m not making music, I’m travelling for something. So I consoled myself with that. Maybe it was time to rest. When I’m not doing the things I love doing most, I feel very useless. While I was in the hospital, I couldn’t act. I could not dance, nor sing, or do whatever I loved. So I went back to writing content again.

“I started working on a series for my YouTube, because I knew that people had missed me a lot, and all they had seen on my YouTube was… I fell back, so… There were moments when I would see videos of my colleagues, laugh, and sometimes start to cry, because I wasn’t sure I would still be able to do all the things they were doing again. I couldn’t imagine myself not having dropped like six skits in a month.”

Also, Broda Shaggi revealed that he travelled to Dubai for further surgery after his first operation in Nigeria failed to restore movement to his injured leg.

The comedian said he was still recovering and continued to use crutches. He recalled a difficult period when he could neither move without two crutches nor place his injured leg on the ground.

While his condition has improved enough for him to walk and stand without crutches, he said he still needs them for support.

Broda Shaggi said, “I was examined by Doctor Anil. I was waiting to hear whatever I was going to say, because the doctor in Nigeria already told me that the markers were not regulated yet; that’s why I couldn’t do the surgery. So he checked, examined me, and said the markers truly aren’t regulated, but based on what he’s saying, he can go ahead with the surgery.

“Him saying that gave me, like, so much hope. I felt really happy, and he said that after the surgery, the next day, I’ll be able to stand on my two feet. I prayed again. I’ve always seen surgeries to be a life-or-death matter, you know, so I made sure to put everything in God’s hands. Throughout this period, until now, one thing I keep saying is that I’m grateful because it could have been worse. It was a stray bullet, and it came this way to my hip.”

Broda Shaggi said the experience marked the start of a new chapter in his life, stressing that he would rather his fans celebrate his survival than feel sorry for him.

The actor said surviving the stray bullet and undergoing surgeries had reinforced his gratitude to God, whom he credited with giving him another chance to live.

“Second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen, because I’m coming up with exciting projects right now. Trust me. The things I’ve always wanted to do, the things I plan to do this year, that I’ve not been able to do for the past six, seven months. When you open Instagram, make sure you don’t block me, because I’m coming in with a lot. Get ready.”
