U-17 WWC: Black Maidens fight back to hold Brazil in six-goal thriller
Black Maidens produced a spirited performance to earn a 3-3 draw against Brazil in their second match at the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday.
The encounter at the Mohammed V Stadium saw Ghana come from behind twice before Priscilla Mensah scored a late equaliser to rescue a point.
The Black Maidens went into the match seeking a response after suffering a 3-0 defeat against Norway in their opening game on Sunday.
Brazil made a fast start and took the lead in the seventh minute through Nicolly, putting Ghana under early pressure.
However, the West Africans gradually grew into the game and drew level in the 31st minute when Rafia Osman found the net.
Ghana then turned the match around four minutes later, with Gloria Ameaa scoring to give the Black Maidens a 2-1 advantage.
Their lead did not last until half-time, though, as Kaillany Rafinah struck in the 44th minute to restore parity for Brazil.
Brazil resumed the second half with renewed intent and regained the lead in the 57th minute through Indy, leaving Ghana with another deficit to overcome.
With the Black Maidens facing the prospect of a second consecutive defeat, Mensah stepped up in the 85th minute to score the crucial equaliser and secure a 3-3 draw.
The result gives Ghana their first point of the tournament after two matches, although they remain bottom of Group C.
Ghana will now turn their attention to their final group-stage match against Canada, where they will need a strong performance to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive.
