Todayโs Headlines: Why South Should Complete Eight Years โ Yari; OBJ Mourns Fasoranti, Uduaghan
Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubuโs re-election bid in 2027, arguing that the South should be allowed to complete its eight-year tenure under Nigeriaโs rotational presidency arrangement.
Yari spoke on Monday at the palace of the Emir of Gwandu in Birnin Kebbi, where he and other members of the campaign council visited traditional rulers to pay homage and seek royal blessings ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
The APC campaign director-general aligned with Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, who said the South deserved to complete two terms in office after the North had spent eight years in power.
The North is known for its fairness; the Southerners agreed, persevered, and consented to the North spending two terms of the Presidency. It was only three years ago that power left the North West; we must be seen to be fair and just,โ Yari said.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed sadness over the deaths of Reuben Fasoranti, former Afenifere leader, and Emmanuel Uduaghan, former Delta State governor.
Mr Obasanjo described Mr Fasoranti, who died on Tuesday, as one of the last surviving titans of a generation that laid the foundation for modern Nigeria through selfless service, sacrifice and unwavering integrity.
He said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi.
According to Mr Obasanjo, Mr Fasorantiโs life exemplified purposeful leadership, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the progress of the Yoruba nation and Nigeria.
The former president described the late elder statesmanโs death as the end of an extraordinary era, recalling his contributions to education and nation-building.

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has rejected the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authorityโs records of petrol imports for 2022 and 2023 over wide discrepancies with figures presented by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
The committee consequently resolved to summon the heads of NMDPRA, NNPCL and the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative for a joint meeting to reconcile the conflicting figures and establish the reasons for the discrepancies.
The decision followed the appearance of NMDPRA officials before the committee on Wednesday to respond to queries raised in NEITIโs 2021โ2023 Oil and Gas Industry Audit Report over the volume of Premium Motor Spirit imported into the country.

The average cost of preparing a pot of jollof rice in Nigeria fell by 11.5 per cent in the third quarter of 2026, the sharpest quarterly reduction in a decade, but millions of households still struggle with stagnant incomes and high living costs.
SBM Intelligence, an Africa-focused research and consulting firm, disclosed this in its October 2026 Jollof Index report, released on Wednesday.
According to the report, the average cost of preparing jollof rice fell by N3,400, from N29,578 in June to N26,178 in September, following reductions in the prices of chicken, beef, vegetable oil and other ingredients.
However, the research firm noted that the improvement had not translated into meaningful financial relief for many households, as food remained considerably more expensive than in previous years.
