Nollywood: Ogogo’s daughters announce plans after father’s death

The daughters of late Yoruba film star Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have announced plans to pursue careers in Nollywood, saying they want to keep their father’s legacy alive through their own work. Lima Olamide Taiwo, known as Lima Ogogo, and her sister, Shakira Taiwo, popularly called Kira Ogogo, shared the decision in a video released on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The sisters used the recording to acknowledge the support they received from Nigerians and members of the entertainment industry following their father’s death. Lima said the family appreciated everyone who reached out to them during their period of grief. She also acknowledged support from prominent individuals, including Honourable Tayo Ayinde, the First Lady of Nigeria, the Ogun State governor, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and the Olu of Ilaro. “On behalf of my family and I, we want to say thank you very much to everybody who stood by us,” Lima said. Beyond expressing gratitude, the sisters disclosed that they intended to establish themselves in the entertainment industry rather than limit their involvement to a tribute to their late father. Lima said audiences would have the opportunity to maintain their connection with Ogogo through Kira’s work. “We are going to start seeing Ogogo through my sister Kira Ogogo. We are coming to the industry and we are here to stay,” she said. She appealed to the actor’s supporters to follow Kira Ogogo’s YouTube channel and help promote their forthcoming projects by watching and sharing their content. The announcement prompted emotional responses from social media users, several of whom recalled watching the veteran actor’s films while growing up. Some commenters said the video brought them to tears, while others welcomed the sisters’ decision and pledged to support their efforts in the film industry. Ogogo died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 and was buried the following day. His death drew tributes from Nollywood colleagues and admirers of his work. Tags:
