Obuasi SHTS rape accuser allegedly given GH¢100 to keep quiet – Police

A 20-year-old student of Obuasi Senior High Technical School who has accused the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, of rape has told police that she was given GH¢100 after the alleged assault to keep her from speaking about the incident.

According to an update issued by the Ashanti South Regional Police Command, the student alleged that Mr Abdulai gave her the money after forcibly having sexual intercourse with her at his official residence on the school campus.

The police said the case docket had been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office for study and advice following the completion of key investigative procedures.

The student, a Form Two student, reportedly lodged the complaint at the Obuasi Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) on August 4, 2026, accompanied by her father.

She alleged that the incident occurred on July 25, 2026, after she went to an area near the headmaster’s official residence where students dry their clothes to retrieve her dresses.

According to the police statement, the student claimed that Mr Abdulai lured her into his residence under the pretext of asking her to undertake an errand for him.

Upon entering the residence, she alleged that the headmaster began caressing and fondling her against her will.

She further told investigators that when she resisted his advances, he dragged her into his bedroom and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

The police said the student alleged that she was subsequently given GH¢100 to “seal her mouth”.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command said investigations were immediately launched after the complaint was lodged.

It noted that investigative procedures, including a medical examination, reconstruction of the alleged crime scene, photographs and the collection of witness statements, had been completed.

The case docket has since been sent to the Attorney-General’s Office for the necessary legal advice and further action.

The police assured the public that efforts were ongoing to establish the facts of the case and ensure that the matter was dealt with appropriately.

Mr Abdulai has been at the centre of allegations of sexual misconduct involving students at the school, triggering public concern and calls for accountability.

The allegations remain subject to the ongoing legal process.
