Mixed Feelings As CID Boss Yaako Lydia Releases Statement On Alleged Rape Case Involving Obuasi Head
Public reaction has been mixed after the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Yaako Donkor, shared a police press release on her official Facebook page on October 21, 2026, providing an update on the alleged rape case involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
According to the statement issued by the Ghana Police Service, Ashanti-South Regional Headquarters, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Bekwai has forwarded the case docket to the Attorney-General’s office for study and advice. The suspect is the school’s headmaster, Mr. Zakaria Abdulai, also known as Paapaa.
The release states that a 20-year-old Form Two student, accompanied by her father, lodged a complaint alleging that the headmaster forcibly had sexual intercourse with her in his official bungalow on campus. She claimed she was lured into the residence on the pretext of running an errand, and was afterwards given an amount of money to keep quiet.
Police say investigations have been completed, including medical examination, reconstruction of the scene, photographs and witness statements. They assured the public that no effort would be spared in getting to the bottom of the case.
The update has drawn varied reactions online. Some citizens commended the CID boss for her responsiveness and transparency, expressing confidence in her leadership. Others raised concerns about why the docket was sent to the Attorney-General for advice instead of the police proceeding directly, and questioned whether the suspect had been arrested.
Many social media users also called for the case to receive the same priority as other high-profile matters, urging that it be handled swiftly and fairly. Several stressed the need to protect young female students and ensure they get justice, while warning against allowing the case to fade without progress.
As discussions continue, the public awaits the Attorney-General’s advice and further updates from the police. The suspect remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
