Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has removed Geoffrey Mosiria from his position as Chief Officer.
The changes were announced on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, through a circular signed by Nairobi County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr. Machel Waikenda. The letter, referenced NCC/CS/003/2026, states the reassignments were made pursuant to sections 44(3)(a), 45(5) and 64 of the County Governments Act, 2012, with the approval of Governor Sakaja, and that they take effect immediately.
Under the new arrangement, Zipporah Njeri Mwangi has been designated as acting Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service. She will hold the position in addition to her substantive role as Chief Officer for City Culture, Arts and Tourism.
The circular also affected two other senior officials. Eng. Samwel Njogu has been appointed as acting Chief Officer for Mobility, while Godfrey Akumali, who is in charge of Housing and Urban Renewal, will also take up the Lands docket in an acting capacity.
The circular did not directly state that Mosiria had been dismissed, but his name does not appear among those reassigned, and his responsibilities have been transferred to Mwangi.
The reshuffle comes just days after Mosiria publicly declared his intention to vie for the Nairobi governorship in the 2027 General Election. Mosiria made the announcement on October 11 during a service at Jesus Is Alive Ministries Church in Nairobi, where Jubilee leaders were present. He branded himself as “Mr Fix-it” and said his experience in the county’s health, environment and citizen engagement dockets had prepared him to lead the capital.
“If you want change in Nairobi, Mosiria is the change. Mosiria will fix Nairobi. Sasa nataka nikuwe gavana, mama akiwa deputy wangu,” he said, while proposing Bishop Margaret Wanjiru as a possible running mate.
Mosiria had become a visible figure in Sakaja’s administration, particularly when he served in the Environment docket, where he was known for enforcement operations against illegal dumping, noise pollution and businesses accused of flouting county by-laws. He was later moved to the Citizen Engagement docket in November 2025.
In recent days, Mosiria has accused the county leadership of attempting to intimidate him and has said he intends to expose alleged wrongdoing at City Hall.
