Today’s Headlines: Stop making life difficult for Nigerians with unrealistic policies, projects – Makinde to Tinubu; Trump, in North Carolina, says Republicans will defy midterm odds
The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Seyi Makinde, has urged the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to stop complicating the lives of Nigerians with what he described as “unrealistic policies and projects”.
Makinde who is the Governor of Oyo State, stated this during the MakindeDaura 2027 Presidency South-South Town hall meeting held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
According to him, the Federal Government has been known for undertaking huge projects and abandoning them along the way, thereby worsening the living conditions of Nigerians.
GREENVILLE, North Carolina, Oct 20 (Reuters) – With his approval rating at record lows, President Donald Trump attempted to defy political gravity in a pep rally in North Carolina on Tuesday, urging voters to support his favored Senate candidate in a race some Republican groups have already given up on.
Trump has embarked on a campaign blitz ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, traveling more than 29,000 miles (46,671 km) since late September to boost Republican candidates — and his second stop in North Carolina in as many months was a signal of how much is at stake in this southern state.
Polls show former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper with a commanding lead over Republican Michael Whatley, a former senior party official, in a Senate race that could help decide the balance of power in Washington.
The two are running to fill the seat of retiring Republican Thom Tillis, a one-time Trump ally, who split with the president over his landmark tax bill and defense policy.
Tillis told Politico in a Tuesday interview that his fellow Republicans were headed toward “a train wreck” and a “whoop ass” in November.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has held the first Incident Management Meeting on the Ebola outbreak, a day after the Federal Government declared the outbreak in the country.
The agency disclosed this in a statement on its X page on Wednesday.
According to the NCDC, the meeting brought together leadership and key partners to align on response efforts.
“The first Incident Management Meeting was convened on October 21, 2026, after the Honorable Minister’s official outbreak declaration of Ebola in Nigeria, bringing together leadership and key partners to align on response efforts,” the agency said.
Segun Sowunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, has described Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), as a “Northern kid” following his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Baba-Ahmed had described Tinubu as a failure, arguing that although the president inherited a poor country with weak institutions, poverty and insecurity, he had spent three and a half years in office without delivering the expected results.
But Sowunmi, who spoke on Vanguard’s Politics Hub on Wednesday, faulted the PRP chairman’s assessment, questioning his criticism of the president and challenging Northern leaders to reflect on the region’s development.
