Rachel Ruto’s Father Samuel Kimeto Makes Rare Public Appearance at Mashujaa Day Celebrations

Samuel Kirwa Kimeto, the father of First Lady Rachel Ruto, attracted attention during Kenya’s 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret on Monday, October 20.

Kimeto, who rarely appears in public, was among the notable guests attending the national event, which brought together political leaders, dignitaries and thousands of Kenyans to commemorate the country’s heroes.

His arrival became a talking point after footage captured him stepping out of a grey Toyota Land Cruiser TXL, drawing attention to his distinctive appearance and formal reception at the stadium.

Kimeto was dressed in a black cowboy hat, a matching black suit, a crisp white shirt and a red tie. He also carried a walking stick, completing his carefully coordinated outfit.

A bodyguard was seen standing by the vehicle’s rear door as Kimeto prepared to alight. Before the door opened, officers nearby appeared to exchange brief words while checking the occupants of the vehicle.

Once he stepped out, Kimeto proceeded towards the stadium seating area, accompanied by two women. His arrival was announced over the public address system as he was escorted to his designated seat.

Despite his advanced age, Kimeto appeared steady as he climbed the stadium stairs. The footage offered a rare glimpse of the First Lady’s father, whose public appearances have remained relatively uncommon.

His presence added a personal dimension to the high-profile celebrations, which attracted national attention because of the distinguished guests and the significance of the annual event.

The ceremony was led by President William Ruto, alongside Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. Government officials, political leaders and members of the public also attended the gathering.

The 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations were co-hosted by Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, bringing the national festivities to the North Rift region.

Mashujaa Day is observed annually on October 20 to honour Kenyans who have contributed to the country’s independence, development and progress. The occasion also provides an opportunity to recognise individuals whose contributions continue to shape the nation.

Kimeto’s appearance stood out among the day’s many moments, with his distinctive outfit, arrival in a luxury vehicle and formal escort attracting interest from those following the celebrations.

Although the event primarily focused on honouring Kenya’s heroes, the presence of relatives of prominent national leaders also drew public attention, offering glimpses into the personal lives of figures associated with the country’s leadership.

His appearance at Kipchoge Keino Stadium therefore became one of the memorable moments from the celebrations, highlighting how even rarely seen guests can attract attention during major national occasions.
