Nairobi Businesswoman Wakes Up to Shócking News After Thieves Empty Her Electronics Shop

Nairobi entrepreneur Sonia Sonnie woke up to every business owner’s nightmare after thieves broke into her electronics shop and made off with nearly everything inside. All they left behind was a monitor and a mouse.

Sonia, who runs Dora Technology, shared her ordeal on social media. She said an employee called her in tears and asked her to check WhatsApp, having discovered that most of the shop’s equipment was gone. Instead of opening the messages, Sonia went straight to the CCTV footage to see what had happened.

The loss hit especially hard because Dora Technology only opened this year. She had put money, time and energy into the business, hoping to grow sales and expand operations.

For her, the stolen laptops and other equipment represented far more than property. They carried the sacrifices and dreams she had poured into the venture.

“Imagine kuanza kitu kutoka zero, kujinyima, kuwekeza pesa yako, kufanya kazi kwa bidii… alafu in one morning, everything changes,” she said.

What hurt almost as much was the reaction online. Sonia said some people doubted that she had CCTV evidence, others accused her of chasing publicity, and some turned her loss into a joke.

She pushed back, saying being a good storyteller does not mean she would joke about something she built with her own hands. She added that it is easy to mock someone’s pain from behind a screen when you are not the one facing the consequences.

She also made it clear that kind words and motivational messages cannot replace what the business lost. She admitted she had no inspiring speech to offer at the moment and was still processing everything.

Even so, Sonia says this is not the end. “We will figure out the next step, one day at a time,” she wrote.

She thanked everyone who called, sent messages, checked in on the business and prayed for her, and asked for continued prayers as she and her team recover from the setback.
