£35m Arsenal Star Drops Transfer Update Just Hours Before Bayern Clash as Future Move Is Revealed

According to a report by Football London on October 21, 2026, Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has revealed that he would love to play in Spain’s La Liga in the future, despite expressing his happiness at the Emirates Stadium ahead of the Gunners’ Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

The 31-year-old made the admission during an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, where he was asked whether he would consider returning to his homeland after spending his entire senior career playing in England.

Raya responded enthusiastically, saying: “Yes, I’d love to, I’d love to experience La Liga.”

He added: “For now, I’m very happy here, but I would definitely like to try playing in the Spanish league. I think it’s a very competitive league. Perhaps, in the future, I could play for a Spanish club. I’m Spanish, and naturally, I’d love to play there.”

The interviewer also suggested that the colour white suited the goalkeeper, an apparent reference to Real Madrid. Raya laughed off the remark without confirming any interest in joining the Spanish giants.

His comments have attracted attention because he has entered the final two years of his current Arsenal contract, which is due to expire in June 2028. However, he did not indicate that he intends to leave the Premier League leaders, making it clear that he remains happy in north London.

Arsenal initially signed Raya on loan from Brentford in August 2023 before completing a permanent transfer reportedly worth £27 million the following summer.

Since arriving at the Emirates, the Spanish international has established himself as a key figure under Mikel Arteta. According to Football London, he has made 157 appearances for the club across all competitions, conceding 117 goals and keeping 73 clean sheets.

Raya’s performances have strengthened his reputation as one of the leading goalkeepers in European football, particularly because of his distribution, composure under pressure and ability to organise Arsenal’s defence.

Although he has generally played as an understudy to Unai Simón for Spain, Raya has been part of a national team that has enjoyed considerable success on the international stage.

The goalkeeper also discussed his ambitions for the current season, making it clear that winning major trophies remains his priority.

“ To win everything. We want to establish ourselves as favourites, that’s our objective,” Raya said. “Hopefully, we can improve on last season by lifting the Champions League trophy, though there’s still a long way to go for that.”

His immediate focus will be Arsenal’s meeting with Bayern Munich in the Champions League, a fixture that presents another opportunity for him to demonstrate his importance to Arteta’s side.

Raya is also expected to be among the contenders for the Yashin Trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, alongside several prominent goalkeepers, including Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois, Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez and Spain teammate Simón.
