Mudavadi and Wetangula Walkout After Sifuna is Invited to Speak to Mourners at a Church

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula were captured on video leaving a requiem mass shortly before Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna addressed mourners.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 21, at Friends Church in Lang’ata, Nairobi, during a service held in honour of the late Burudi Nabwera, a former politician and diplomat.

Footage showed Mudavadi and Wetang’ula walking along the church aisle with their entourage, greeting some congregants as they headed towards the exit. Their departure coincided with the programme controller inviting Sifuna to speak.

Upon being called to address the gathering, Sifuna appeared to acknowledge the moment with a humorous remark, saying, “This is Nairobi,” drawing laughter from mourners. However, it remains unclear whether the two leaders left specifically because Sifuna had been invited to speak.

The incident comes amid political differences between the leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election. Mudavadi and Wetang’ula support President William Ruto’s re-election bid, while Sifuna has positioned himself among the president’s political challengers through the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Nabwera previously served as Kenya’s ambassador to the United States and was elected Lugari MP in 1988.
