David Raya Reveals Dream Destination In The Future
According to a report by Sports Mole on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has revealed his ambition to play in Spainās La Liga before retiring, despite enjoying the most successful period of his professional career in English football.
The Spanish international played a key role in Arsenalās Premier League title triumph in the 2025-26 campaign, ending the clubās 22-year wait. He also claimed the Golden Glove award after recording 19 clean sheets.
Speaking to Marca, Raya discussed the possibility of returning to his homeland after beginning his professional career in England with Blackburn Rovers at 16. The 31-year-old admitted that playing in Spain remains one of his personal ambitions.
āI would love to try La Liga. For now, I am very happy here, but I would like to try the Spanish league, which is very competitive. Maybe, in the future, I could play for a Spanish club. I am Spanish and I would love to play there, definitely,ā Raya said.
During the interview, the journalist jokingly suggested that Raya looked good wearing white, prompting a light-hearted exchange that appeared to reference Real Madrid. However, the goalkeeper remains firmly established at Arsenal, having initially joined on loan from Brentford in 2023 before completing a permanent transfer the following season.
Raya is contracted to the Gunners until June 2028 and has continued to deliver important performances under Mikel Arteta. Besides helping Arsenal secure the league title, he guided them to the Champions League final, where they eventually lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
Although disappointed by that defeat, Raya described reaching the final as a dream fulfilled and insisted Arsenalās objective is to win the competition during the 2026-27 season.
The goalkeeper has also been nominated for the best goalkeeper award at the 2026 Ballon dāOr ceremony, scheduled for October 26 in London. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that his limited involvement at the World Cup could affect his chances.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente selected Unai Simon as his first-choice goalkeeper, despite competition from Raya and Barcelonaās Joan Garcia.
Reflecting on his campaign, Raya said: āI think I had a perfect year. Maybe the only thing I lacked was playing at the World Cup. It was my best season as a professional, being decisive and lifting trophies.ā
