Woman causes scene at Naivas after discovering water was sparkling water
Drama unfolded at a Naivas supermarket after a woman caused a scene at the checkout counter after allegedly discovering that the water she had picked was sparkling water costing more than she expected.
According to witnesses at the supermarket, the woman had picked what she thought was regular drinking water from the shelves and proceeded to the checkout.
However, upon reaching the counter and having the item scanned, she was told the price was higher than the normal bottled water price.
It was then that she realized she had picked sparkling water instead of still water, leading to a heated exchange at the till.
Eyewitnesses say the woman insisted she had been misled by the packaging and complained that the supermarket had not clearly distinguished the products.
The incident caused a brief commotion as other shoppers stopped to watch the drama, with some trying to calm her down while staff at the checkout attempted to explain the difference between the two products.
Sparkling water, which is carbonated water, is often more expensive than regular still water due to its processing and branding, something many shoppers are not aware of until at the counter.
After a few minutes of argument, the woman reportedly abandoned the water and left the supermarket empty-handed, while other customers continued with their shopping.
The incident has since sparked reactions online, with many Kenyans sharing similar experiences of picking the wrong item from supermarket shelves only to realize at the checkout.
Others advised shoppers to always check labels carefully before picking products, especially imported or premium brands.
Naivas management did not comment on the incident by the time of publishing.
