Mike Sonko Speaks Out After Nelson Ambia Is Arraigned Over Feruz Hussein’s Murder

Former Governor Mike Sonko has spoken out following the arraignment of Nelson Ambia, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend, Feruz Hussein, as detectives seek to detain suspect while investigations continue.

In a statement shared on Wednesday, October 21, Sonko said the DCI had filed an application seeking custodial detention for Ambia pending further investigations.

The court’s decision on the application was still awaited at the time of his statement.

Sonko also raised concerns about allegations of repeated violence against Feruz and members of her family.

According to him, Ambia is accused of assaulting Feruz and allegedly attacking her mother, sister and brother.

The former governor further claimed that Feruz’s mother and sister, Shadia, received threats from the suspect.

He alleged that Ambia threatened to kill the family’s two remaining children, identified as 15-year-old Malik and 19-year-old Shadia.

Sonko said the family had been living in fear and faced financial difficulties, which he claimed made it harder for them to seek assistance and pursue justice.

He explained that well-wishers referred the family to his office, prompting his intervention to help them navigate the process of seeking justice.

Emphasising that financial status should not determine access to justice, Sonko declared his commitment to supporting Feruz’s relatives as the case progresses.

“Being poor does not mean you don’t deserve justice,” he said, reiterating his call for justice for the deceased.

The case now awaits further court directions as investigators pursue inquiries into the allegations against Ambia.

The former Governor Sonko maintained that he would continue standing with Feruz’s family as they seek accountability over her death.
