Chelsea Star Urged to Leave After Alonso Snub, “He Should Go”
According to a report by Football.London on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Estevão Willian has been encouraged to consider leaving Chelsea in January as he struggles to secure regular playing time under head coach Xabi Alonso.
The 19-year-old made a promising start at Stamford Bridge after joining from Palmeiras in 2025.
Last season, he featured in 43 matches across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. However, his opportunities have become scarce since Alonso took charge in the summer.
Estevão has yet to start a Premier League match this season and has played just 154 minutes in the league and Carabao Cup.
In Alonso’s 3-4-2-1 system, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer have often occupied the two attacking midfield positions.
Pedro Neto has also been used on the right, leaving Estevão with little room to break into the starting line-up.
Former Chelsea winger Scott Sinclair believes the young forward needs consistent minutes to continue developing. Sinclair knows the challenge of finding a place at Stamford Bridge, having spent time out on loan during his own spell at the club.
“As a young player, all you want to do is play football,” Sinclair said. He added that a lack of match time can affect a player’s sharpness and confidence, making it harder to take advantage of opportunities when they arrive. In his view, Estevão should look for a chance to play regularly.
Former Chelsea midfielder Pat Nevin also raised the possibility of the teenager seeking opportunities elsewhere.
Nevin stressed that young players need to build experience through regular appearances, rather than spending too much time on the bench.
He said he would not be surprised if Estevão explored his options, while stopping short of insisting that the player should leave immediately.
Chelsea, however, may be reluctant to let him go. The club could need Estevão if Palmer or Rogers are unavailable, and his talent gives Alonso another attacking option.
That leaves both the player and the club facing a difficult decision: stay and compete for a place, or seek more regular football elsewhere.
