Abdul-Salam Yakubu names Andre Ayew, three others as potential GFA presidential candidates for 2027 election

New Edubiase FC president and owner Abdul-Salam Yakubu says several football personalities are preparing to contest the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency in 2027.

Speaking to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Yakubu named Samuel Annim Addo, Ralph Gyambrah, Elloeny Amande and former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew as potential candidates for the election.

“I can confirm that Samuel Annim Addo, Ralph Gyambrah, Elloeny Amande and Andre Ayew will contest for the presidency next year,” he said.

Yakubu also suggested that former GFA presidential candidate George Afriyie could consider another attempt to lead the association, although he was yet to receive confirmation of his plans.

“I am yet to hear from George Afriyie because people close to him have advised him to contest again,” he added.

The GFA is expected to hold its next elective congress in October 2027, with the race to succeed or retain incumbent president Kurt Okraku likely to attract significant interest.

Okraku’s future remains uncertain following an amendment to the GFA constitution that increased the presidential term limit from two terms to three, potentially allowing him to seek another term in office.

It is yet to be confirmed whether the incumbent will take advantage of the revised rules to pursue a third term.

Among the personalities named by Yakubu, Annim Addo has previously served as a member of the GFA Executive Council and is involved in club football. He also works as manager of former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan.

Gyambrah, meanwhile, is a former Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association chairman, giving him experience in football administration at the regional level.

Amande is the chief executive officer of Karela United and has previously contested for a position on the GFA Executive Council, although he was unsuccessful.

Ayew, a former captain of Ghana’s senior national team, is currently the chief executive officer of Nania FC.
