Youths Trapped In House At Asuofia β Residents Storm Building To Free Victims Of Alleged QNET Scam
Drama at Asuofia in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, after residents reportedly stormed a house and rescued several people trapped inside over an alleged QNET recruitment scam.
According to reports, the victims β young men and women from different parts of the country β were lured to the house under unclear circumstances. They were told they would get jobs, travel opportunities, or business deals, only to end up locked up and stranded.
Worried residents who noticed unusual movement and overcrowding in the house decided to act. They broke into the place and freed the victims.
This is not the first time such a case has happened in Kumasi. In recent months, police and EOCO have rescued hundreds of people in the Ashanti Region from similar QNET-linked scams. In one operation at BohyenβAmpabame and Adwuman near Kenyasi, security agencies rescued over 295 victims and arrested dozens of suspects. Some were even ECOWAS citizens who were charged $750 each after being promised mining jobs.
QNET itself has said its name is being misused by criminals to run fake job and recruitment scams, and that it does not support such activities.
For the victims at Asuofia, what started as a hope for a better life nearly turned into a nightmare β until neighbours stepped in.
Police are expected to investigate the house and arrest those behind the alleged recruitment scheme.
