Atiku breaks silence on Abuja Ebola case, sends strong message to Nigerians

ADC Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the confirmed Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), calling for calm and urging Nigerians to follow verified health advice as authorities work to contain the virus.

In a post shared on his X account on Tuesday, Atiku expressed concern over the development and sympathised with the patient receiving treatment.

“The confirmed case of Ebola in the Federal Capital Territory is deeply concerning. My thoughts are with the patient, and I commend the health professionals working with urgency to contain the infection and protect the public,” he said.

The 2027 presidential candidate stressed that the country needs accurate information and swift action to prevent the disease from spreading further.

“In a moment like this, Nigerians deserve calm, clear information and decisive action. I urge the authorities to sustain contact tracing, support those affected and protect the frontline workers risking their own safety to care for others,” Atiku stated.

He also appealed to Nigerians to avoid spreading false information, saying only verified health updates should be shared.

“I call on every Nigerian to follow the guidance of health experts and share only verified information. The media has an important role in informing the public responsibly and helping prevent fear and misinformation,” he added.

The former vice president further called on citizens to support healthcare workers and unite in efforts to stop the outbreak.

“Let us stand together, support our health workers and do everything necessary to contain this case swiftly. The safety of every Nigerian must remain our shared priority,” he said.

The Federal Government on Tuesday confirmed an Ebola case in Abuja involving a woman who arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda. Health authorities said the patient is in isolation and receiving treatment, while contact tracing has begun and dozens of close contacts are being monitored.

The government has also placed public and private health facilities across the country on high alert as part of efforts to prevent further transmission. Health officials have continued to urge Nigerians to remain calm, observe personal hygiene and rely on information from official public health authorities.
